When we started Breakfast Club at Randwick Park School in 2010 we wanted to make a difference and to do this we knew we needed to do things in a different way.

Among the things we put in place were:

  • Breakfasts and lunches for children
  • Provision of school items such as uniforms and stationery
  • Community support for families including appliances and furniture
  • Clothing Op Shop
  • Food bank
  • Garden to Table
  • Sports Academy

These initiatives have all been very successful especially the Sports Academy as those who have been following these blogs will be well aware.  From the outset, St Kentigern College offered their support to the Sports Academy with coaching from their Rugby & Netball teams and general assistance where needed.

Recently one of the Sports Academy boys has been granted a St. Kentigern College scholarship.  What a great achievement! Who would have thought that after just two years the Sports Academy would open up such an opportunity for one to develop and advance?

But this is no ordinary boy.  He scored over 40 tries in 2014 and was named in the AIMS 7’s team.  He is a credit to his Samoan heritage and to his parents in the way they have raised him.

To ensure this boy can finish his course we have put together a ‘Mentoring Advisory Team’ for him made up of Business CEO’s, a teacher from Randwick Park and leaders from Rotary.  Watch this space, another Samoan All Black in the making!

2015 starts a five year journey.  We will keep you posted on developments along the way.
