Breakfast Club (along with setting up BC Sports) has set up BC Books with the aim of getting books to every child sibling of current students at both Glen Innes and Glen Taylor Schools.
Both Schools have identified how many siblings of students are under 5 years at home, and it is our intention for 10 months a year to get a new age appropriate book to these children.
A survey by Auckland University showed that a number of children in this area that attend school aged 5 have a learning age between 2 and 3 years of age. We believe that with a two pronged initiative we can go a long way to solving this problem.
In 2025 we will start this programme and also each term invite the parents to the various schools where they can receive help in the area of reading to their children.
We already have 500 books purchased and are setting up a software programme to make this happen, thanks so far to Wynn Williams Solicitors.
Recently I listened to an interview of Murray Thom (Founder of Personalised Plates & Great NZ Song Book). He had this to say…
Never chase a dying breeze
He then explained, you always look for evidence of a ‘new breeze’ and if you are in business, you cannot just sail the same course. You must constantly look where the next breeze is coming from and where you should be positioning yourself to move forward.
